Laboratory techniques in biology 2nd grade course provides a student with theoretical and practical knowledge in the area of microscopic techniques, techniques of
phylogeny reconstruction, laboratory analysis, cell and tissue culture techniques, analytical techniques in hydrobiology and ecotrophology, primate genomics, methods of analysis and assessment of
animal origin products. A course participant will be trained to handle professional laboratory apparatuses in order to develop his own professional skills independently. Knowledge gained during the
studies will also include biology methodology and statistics as well as bioinformatics. The course is designed to master general and specific analysis, analytical chemistry while handling optical
and electron microscope. The course programme covers the field of coloring and sustaining specimens and in vitro culturing techniques.
Statistics methods in biology, bioethics, microscopic techniques, analytical chemistry, bioinformatics, biological molecules marking techniques, basics of laboratory analytical techniques, ecotoxicology, cell and tissue culture techniques, foreign language.
Techniques of phylogeny reconstruction, elements of specific analysis, biotechniques in animal breeding, comparative genomics, analytical techniques in hydrobiology, analytical techniques in ecotrophology, foreign language.
Classes are conducted in the form of lectures (430 hours), laboratory, seminars and field classes (all together 570 hours).
7-9 subjects will be assessed on the basis of the exam. The exam will comprise of open-ended and closed questions. All exams might be retaken according to the Study Regulations. Practical classes are assessed with grades as well as lectures which don't end with exams. The final grade comprises of both results. All lecturers present the grading system during the first meeting. All subjects are graded on the basis of the student's knowledge, practical skills and social competences in accordance to the subject syllabus.
Standard of education in Laboratory techniques in Biology provides no less than 120 ECTS credits for 4 semester course of study.

Graduates of the Laboratory techniques in Biology can work as a specialist in:

A candidate must have BSc or BA degree in Biology or in a similar area of study and meet the English language requirements on B2 level.
Your BSc degree should cover most of the following subjects:
- basic subjects (chemistry, physics, mathematics)
- systematics, plant and animal anatomy and physiology
- genetics, cell biology, immunology
- environmental sciences
Candidates need to prove their English proficiency on at least B2 level (of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - CEFR). Language test requirements:
- University of Cambridge Exams: FCE with minimum points 160; CAE or CPE with minimum points 120,
- TOEFL (Internet based) with minimum of 75 points,
- IELTS Academic Test with minimum of 5,5 points.
Exception from English tests:
Applicants who have obtained a Bachelor's degree from the home country with English as the Language of instruction are exempt from the test.
